Johnston City Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met July 23.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of the Johnston City Community Unit School District No. 1 met at a regular Board meeting held on July 23, 2024 with Closed Session beginning at 5:46 p.m. and Regular Session beginning at 6:04 p.m. at the Unit Office, 1113 Grand Avenue, Johnston City, IL. President Chris Cullum called the meeting to order and asked the clerk for the attendance roll call.

ROLL CALL

Present: Jimmy Dean, John Etherton, Patti Martin, Randy McIntosh, John Van, and Chris Cullum

Absent: Chad Barras

Motion made by Jimmy Dean and seconded by John Etherton to approve the consent agenda consisting of the following:

A. Approval of the Regular and Closed Session Minutes of the 6/27/24 Regular Meeting

B. Approve Destruction of Closed Session tapes listed below in Accordance with 5 ILCS 120/2.6c 1/20/22, 2/24/22, 3/24/22, 4/21/22, 5/19/22, 6/23/22 (special meeting), 6/28/22, 7/21/22, 8/18/22, 9/19/22, 10/20/22, 11/9/22 (special meeting), 11/15/22, and 12/15/22

C. Approval of Treasurer’s Report

D. Approval of Bills for Payment

E. Reaffirm Serious Safety Hazard Areas for Transportation

Voting Aye: Dean, Etherton, Martin, McIntosh, Van, and Cullum

Motion Carried

Mr. Daniel Henderson addressed the Board regarding 5th Grade students not being able to participate in Middle School Softball. Mr. Henderson has a daughter that will be in 5th Grade and wants to try out for softball. He asked if there was a way that she could participate. Mr. Pietrantoni and Mrs. Bush were asked if they could answer. Mr. Pietrantoni stated that one specific reason is Softball/Baseball don’t have C games.

Mrs. Clark provided construction updates to the Board.

∙ Site demolition is almost completed.

∙ The foundation to the West Side School and an old cistern were found.

∙ The new Pre-K bathroom has the plumbing completed.

∙ Ameren power is moving a power pole from the parking lot.

∙ The playgrounds are being installed at Jefferson, Lincoln, and Washington. ∙ Asphalt at Jefferson School is projected to be done next week.

∙ Flooring mitigation at Jefferson is being done.

∙ The High School and Washington School gym floors are complete.

Motion made by Patti Martin and seconded by John Etherton to approve/adopt the IASB PRESS Policy Updates as presented.

Motion made by Randy McIntosh and seconded by John Etherton to approve the JALC Clinical Agreement.

Voting Aye: Dean, Etherton, Martin, McIntosh, Van, and Cullum

Motion made by John Etherton and seconded by Jimmy Dean to approve Media Policy 8:35.

Voting Aye: Dean, Etherton, Martin, McIntosh, Van, and Cullum

The Board reviewed the Return to School Plan.

Motion made by Randy McIntosh and seconded by John Van to approve the custodial contract as presented.

Voting Aye: Dean, Etherton, Martin, McIntosh, Van, and Cullum

Motion Carried

Motion made by Jimmy Dean and seconded by John Etherton to employ Megan Hearn as a Lincoln School Paraprofessional, Vivian Layne as a Jefferson School Paraprofessional, Travis Brown as a Paid Assistant Football Coach, Monty Norment and Riley Hearn as Paid Assistant Football Coaches to split the stipend 50/50, Lex Glasco as a Paid Assistant Football Coach receiving the 40% stipend, Hannah Cutsinger as the HS Dance (Pom Pon) Coach, Renee Dudley as the 5th – 6th Grade Boys’ Basketball Coach, Cassidy Hermetz as a Latchkey High School Student Worker, Kylie Dugger as a Latchkey High School Student Worker, and to approve Connor Mowery and Caleb Newell as Volunteer Assistant Football Coaches.

Voting Aye: Dean, Etherton, Martin, McIntosh, Van, and Cullum

Mrs. Clark updated the Board that August 12th is the first day for teachers and August 13th is the first day for students.

7/23/24 MINUTES -3- Mrs. Clark informed the Board that Opaa! has started training kitchen staff.

Motion made Randy McIntosh and seconded by Chad Barras to adjourn the meeting at 6:26 p.m.
