Southern Illinois University adds new assistant coaches to women's volleyball staff

Bailey Neuberger and Alan Segal have been appointed as assistant coaches for the Southern Illinois University Women's Volleyball team, head coach Ed Allen announced Wednesday.

Neuberger, who played for the program from 2019 to 2022, served as a graduate assistant during the 2023 season.

"She's got exceptional character and a serving heart," Allen said of Neuberger. "She's done a great job of helping me build this program here, and hopefully we'll take it to another level and do things we haven't done this year."

Segal brings nearly 40 years of volleyball coaching experience, including 25 at the collegiate level. He most recently worked as an assistant coach for both indoor and beach volleyball teams at San Jose State. His previous Division I coaching roles include positions at UAB, Eastern Illinois, and Tulane. Segal graduated from California State University-Sacramento (now Sacramento State) with a degree in Recreation Administration in 1982.

"The opportunity to add someone who's been around the collegiate game for the number of years that Alan has is one you don't get very often," Allen stated. "He's an excellent trainer and will be a huge asset for this program."

In addition to his coaching career, Segal has officiated on the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour since 1988.

Neuberger and Segal will make their coaching debut on Saturday, August 24, when the Salukis face Saint Louis in an exhibition match.
