The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has announced its list of collegiate and high school volleyball teams that have earned the AVCA Team Academic Award, sponsored by INTENT. Southern Illinois University (SIU) made the list for the 19th consecutive year.
The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that achieve a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 or better on a 4.0 scale.
"We really emphasize with them, how you do anything is how you do everything," Head Coach Ed Allen stated. "When we expect commitment on the volleyball court, it doesn't change what our expectations are academically."
The Salukis joined Belmont, Bradley, UIC, and UNI on the Team Academic Honor Roll, indicating they were in the top 20 percent of their division.
"It speaks volumes to what SIU supports and expects from its student athletes," Allen added.
