U.S. Representative Mike Bost (IL-12) has announced the winner of the 2024 Congressional Art Competition. The winning piece, "Life of a Child," was created by Olivia Spour from Teutopolis High School. Her artwork will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel in the U.S. Capitol for the next year.

Bost expressed his admiration for Spour's talent and dedication to her craft. He said, “Congratulations to Olivia for winning our 2024 competition. She displayed a great talent for painting, and you can tell this self-portrait carries a special meaning for her. Thank you to all the Southern Illinois high school students who participated this year, as well as our judges, teachers, and reception hosts who made it all possible. Job well done!”

In response to her win, Spour shared some insights into her winning piece: “This artwork is a portrait of myself as a child, age 2,” she said. “My favorite features in this drawing are my bright blue eyes, my small button nose, and my smile. This artwork is one of my most photorealistic pieces that I have created. I have a deep connection with this piece and thoroughly enjoyed creating it.”
