State Representative Dave Severin (R-Benton) has announced the commencement of his Annual Summer Reading Program for 1st through 4th grade students in the 116th district. The program, titled 'Oceans of Possibilities', will reward students who read 8 or more books with an invitation to a pool party at the Mt. Vernon Aquatic Zoo on Thursday, July 8, 2024.
"I’m thrilled to sponsor this year’s ‘Oceans of Possibilities’ Summer Reading Program. I look forward to this event every year. I love encouraging students to keep reading during their summer break and to give them some incentive to do so," Severin expressed. "We will have a great time hosting a pool party for the students that successfully participate in the program. I welcome all 1st through 4th graders in the 116th district to participate!"
The Oceans of Possibilities Magic summer reading club challenges 1st through 4th graders to read 8 books over the summer. Books from local library programs are accepted, and books over 150 pages may count as 2 books. Upon completion, parents or guardians can verify the books read by submitting a summer reading form by mail to 303 N. Main Street, Benton, IL 62812.
