City of Genoa Liquor Commission met Oct. 18.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

Mayor Jonathon Brust called the special meeting of the Liquor Commission to order at 6:20 PM. On roll call, members Alderman Pam Wesner, Alderman Courtney Winter, and Mayor Jonathon Brust were present; City Administrator Alyssa Seguss and Police Chief Robert Smith was also present.

Alderman Winter made a motion, seconded by Alderman Wesneer to approve the minutes from the January 18, 2023 Meeting. Upon voice vote, all members present voted aye. Minutes approved

New Business:

A. Discuss Liquor Code Amendments: The Liquor Commission discussed liquor ordinance changes related to hours of sale. The Liquor Commission reviewed information from other local communities and received feedback from a downtown business owner regarding the liquor hours change request. The Liquor Commission ultimately recommended changing the liquor license sale hours as follows:

Monday through Thursday: 6:00 AM to 12:30 AM

Friday: 6:00 AM to 1:30 AM on Saturday

Saturday: 6:00 AM to 1:30 AM on Sunday

Sundays: 10:00 AM to 12:30 AM Monday

The Liquor Commission also discussed amending the Municipal Code to allow 18 year olds to serve alcohol if there is also a bartender over 21 years old working. Currently, the Municipal Code requires bartenders to be 21 years old. The Police Department will be looking into this further to provide information to the Liquor Commission to discuss this further at a later meeting date.

B. Discuss a Concept / Business Plan as it relates to a potential liquor license application: The Liquor Commission discussed this concept / business plan and generally found the business concept to be acceptable. The Liquor Commission will review a future liquor license application.

Motion to adjourn the meeting of the Liquor Commission was made by Alderman Wesner seconded by Alderman Winter. Upon voice vote, all members present voted aye. Motion carried. Meeting was adjourned at 6:50 PM.
