WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rep. Mike Bost (IL-12) stood firm on his commitment to Southern Illinois as he voiced his opposition to a Continuing Resolution that would fund the government for 45 days without addressing critical spending reforms or border security measures.
"The people of Southern Illinois sent me to Washington to restore fiscal sanity and secure our southern border. We had a golden opportunity to do both as we worked this week to avoid a government shutdown," said Rep. Mike Bost. "However, it became clear the Washington Democrats weren’t interested in solving either crisis. For that reason, I voted against the short-term government funding bill that passed the House on Saturday without any serious reforms on spending or border security. We must act now to ensure these burdens are not our children and grandchildren’s to bear."
Rep. Mike Bost has consistently championed fiscal responsibility and the need to fortify the nation's borders. His vote against the short-term funding bill demonstrates his determination to fulfill the promises made to his constituents in Southern Illinois.
The bill in question was passed by the House on Saturday, but Bost's dissenting vote highlights the lack of significant reforms on spending and border security measures. While the funding bill would have averted a government shutdown, Bost recognized the opportunity to address these pressing issues and deemed the bill insufficient.
The congressman emphasized the urgency of addressing these matters to prevent future generations from shouldering the consequences. Bost's decision to vote against the bill underscores his dedication to securing a prosperous and safe future for the people of Southern Illinois.
