WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Mike Bost (IL-12) took a strong stance on fiscal responsibility and national security as he voted to reduce security assistance to Ukraine in the Fiscal Year 2024 Defense Appropriations bill.
Highlighting the importance of prioritizing the needs of the American people, Bost expressed concern about the lack of accountability for the hundreds of millions of dollars being sent to Ukraine. "At a time when we're fighting to restore fiscal sanity here at home, we can't continue sending hundreds of millions of dollars to Ukraine with little accountability for how the money's spent. The needs of the American people must come first. For that reason, I voted to cut security assistance to Ukraine in the Defense Appropriations bill," said Bost.
Emphasizing his commitment to defending America's national security interests, both at home and abroad, Bost emphasized the importance of smart decision-making and transparency. "I believe in fiercely defending America's national security interests at home and abroad. We must stand firm against our adversaries' aggression; but we must do so smartly, demanding transparency for every penny of taxpayer money," he stated.
Bost also stressed the need for accountability and a clear plan when making future investments to protect national security overseas. "If, as the world's leading superpower, we have to make future investments to protect our national security overseas, there must be accountability and a clear plan for how that money will be spent," added Bost.
By voting to cut security assistance to Ukraine, Bost's decision reflects his dedication to fiscal responsibility and ensuring taxpayer money is used effectively and transparently. For more information, visit https://bost.house.gov/2023/9/bost-votes-to-restrict-ukraine-funding.
