Unity Point Community Consolidated School District 140 Board met Feb. 16.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The regular meeting of the Unity Point Board of Education was called to order at 6:02 p.m. by the President, D. W. Presley, with the following members present: Susan Murphy, D. W. Presley, Amanda Pangrazio, Sylvia Thoms and Robin Warne. Others present were: Lori James-Gross, Michelle Brown, Leslie Varble and Mary Beth Goff.

D. W. Presley made the motion, seconded by Sylvia Thoms to approve the Agenda as amended to include employment of Asst. Track Coach. Motion carried 5-0 with all voting yea.

Sylvia Thoms made the motion, seconded by Amanda Pangrazio to approve the minutes of the January 19, 2023 Regular Meeting Minutes, copy attached. Motion carried 5-0 with all voting yea.

Robin Warne made the motion, seconded by D. W. Presley to approve the following Consent Agenda items: - Approval of Bills

- Presentation of Financial Reports

- Jackson County SFST February Distribution

- Correspondence

- Resignation Letter from Heather Petrino, Special Ed Teacher, effective 23/24 School Year

- Resignation Letter from Andrew Jones, Paraprofessional, effective immediately

Motion carried 5-0 with all voting yea.

D. W. Presley recognized guests and visitors that were present.

Public Comments – None.

UPEA Remarks – Rebecca Borowitz provided the Board with a copy of an e-mail she had sent.

Sylvia Thoms made the motion, seconded by Susan Murphy to approve the final 2022/2023 Seniority List. Motion carried 5-0 with all voting yea.

Michelle Brown, Business Manager, provided an explanation regarding our School District Financial Profile Score. Unity Point received a score of 3.80 out of a possible 4.00 putting us in the Financial Recognition category.

Dr. Lori James-Gross, Superintendent, Leslie Varble, Principal for Instruction, and Mary Beth Goff, Dean of Students, provided the following Administrative Updates:

1. Enrollment Report (as of 2/14/23)

2. Continuous School Improvement Update – Mrs. Varble provided an overview of items addressed by CIT on February 13th:

1. Carbondale Schools Articulation Process & UP Graduate Portrait

D. W. Presley made the motion, seconded by Amanda Pangrazio to employ the following individual(s): 

1. Bus Driver/TBD

2. Asst. Track Coach – Jodi Meredith

Motion carried 5-0 with all voting yea.

Sylvia Thoms made the motion, seconded by Susan Murphy to cancel the March 9th, 2023 Board meeting and maintaining the March 23rd date. Motion carried 5-0 with all voting yea.

Robin Warne made the motion, seconded by D. W. Presley to approve the destruction of the following closed meeting recordings in accordance with Illinois School Code 5:120/2.06:

- November 19, 2020

- December 17, 2020

- February 25, 2021

- March 18, 2021

- April 15, 2021

- May 20, 2021

- June 17, 2021

Motion carried 5-0 with all voting yea.

D. W. Presley made the motion, seconded by Amanda Pangrazio to enter into Executive Session at 6:35 p.m. to consider the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees of the public body and to discuss student disciplinary matters. Motion carried 5-0 with all voting yea.

D. W. Presley made the motion, seconded by Susan Murphy to enter back into Regular Session at 8:37 p.m. Motion carried 5-0 with all voting yea.

D. W. Presley made the motion, seconded by Amanda Pangrazio to approve the minutes from the February 16, 2023 Executive Session. Motion carried 5-0 with all voting yea.

Administrative Remarks – None

D. W. Presley made the motion, seconded by Sylvia Thoms to adjourn the meeting at 8:38 p.m. Motion carried 5-0 with all voting yea.
