Candidate for Johnston City Community Unit School District No. 1 board Tim Scarbrough believes that his years of military service make him a strong candidate for board member.

Scarbrough is the Southern Area Facility Manager for the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services and owns Scarbrough Farm in West Frankfort. He Studied Project Management at Norwich University, according to his Facebook page. He says that he has lived a life of service to his community which has motivated him to run for a seat on the school board.

"I'm a 21-year army vet and have been a state employee and my whole motivation is to serve my community. I think this area deserves someone like me that's willing to be transparent and accountable," Scarbrough told Carbondale Reporter.

Scarbrough believes that his previous experience working for the state and the military would be a valuable asset to the school board and the community.

"From commanding troops to being a project manager in other work, I think I'm an effective communicator and that's something every political office needs," Scarborough said.

Tim currently has a child in the school district as a senior and says that he wants to be as unbiased as possible if elected.

"I don't think I would have run if I had a child younger in the system because I don't want that to be a distraction. In the end, my whole drive is to keep the schools about the students they are there to serve."
