Johnston City Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met Dec. 15.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of the Johnston City Community Unit School District No. 1 met at a regular Board meeting held on December 15, 2022 with Closed Session beginning at 5:50 p.m. and the regular meeting beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Unit Office, 200 E. 12th Street, Johnston City, IL. President Chris Cullum called the meeting to order and asked the clerk for the attendance roll call.

ROLL CALL

Present: Chad Barras, Jimmy Dean, Patti Martin, Randy McIntosh, Greg Smiley,

Keven Stroud, and Chris Cullum

Absent: None

Motion made by Greg Smiley and seconded by Keven Stroud to approve the consent agenda consisting of the following:

A. Approval of the Regular and Closed Session and Minutes of the 11/16/21 Regular Meeting

B. Approval of Treasurer’s Report

C. Approval of Bills for Payment

Voting Aye: Barras, Dean, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

The Board recognized the JCHS Illinois State Scholars Caden Clark, Emma Moake, Peyton Shelton, Brenia Smith, Josie Tanner, and Bailey Weber.

Jim Siefert, Hurst-Rosche, provided construction project updates to the Board. The Lincoln Canopy Project should be completed by Christmas. The repairs of the Washington School drainage problem should begin the week of January 4th. Mr. Siefert hopes to have the Unit Office Project go out for bids in January. They are currently working on drawings for the Jefferson School Projects.

Mrs. Clark reviewed the Return to School Plan with the Board. The Return to School Plan does not have any modifications or changes at this time.

Mrs. Clark informed the Board that the District will be applying for the Property Tax Relief Grant.

The first reading of the IASB PRESS Policy Updates was held.

Mr. Pietrantoni reviewed updates to the High School Curriculum Guide with the Board.

Motion made by Jimmy Dean and seconded by Keven Stroud to approve the School Improvement Plan for Washington Middle School.

Voting Aye: Barras, Dean, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Mrs. Clark informed the Board that they District received a FOIA request from SMARTProcure.

Motion made by Randy McIntosh and seconded by Greg Smiley to approve the following actions regarding personnel: accept the resignation of Amanda Wood as a Latchkey Supervisor effective December 16, 2022, employ Anna Clark as an Academic Support Aide at Lincoln School, Audri Linton as an Academic Support Aide at Lincoln School, and Sara Sciluffo as a Latchkey Supervisor.

Voting Aye: Barras, Dean, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Mrs. Clark informed the Board that the District has received a $30,000 grant to pay for the Technology Coach. The District has not received any updates on the Pre-K Grant or the School Maintenance Grant.

Mrs. Clark informed the Board that substitute teacher pay will increase to $115/day and the pay for long-term substitutes will increase to $140/day.

Motion made Greg Smiley and seconded by Keven Stroud to adjourn the meeting the meeting at 6:29 p.m.
