Johnston City Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met Nov. 15.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of the Johnston City Community Unit School District No. 1 met at a regular Board meeting held on November 15, 2022 with Closed Session beginning at 6:45 p.m. and the Regular Session beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Unit Office, 200 E. 12th Street, Johnston City, IL. President Chris Cullum called the meeting to order and asked the clerk for the attendance roll call.

ROLL CALL

Present: Chad Barras, Jimmy Dean, Patti Martin, Randy McIntosh, Greg Smiley,

Keven Stroud, and Chris Cullum

Absent: None

Motion made by Jimmy Dean and seconded by Keven Stroud to approve the consent agenda consisting of the following:

    1. Approval of Regular and Closed Session Minutes of the 10/20/22 Regular Meeting and the Regular and Closed Session Minutes of the 11/9/22
    2. Approval of Treasurer’s Report
    3. Approval of Bills for Payment
    4. Approve JCEA Seniority List
    5. Approve Non-Certified Seniority List
Voting Aye: Barras, Dean, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Greg Smiley and seconded by Randy McIntosh to approve the tax levy for 2022 payable in 2023 as presented.

Voting Aye: Barras, Dean, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Jim Siefert, Hurst-Rosche, provided construction project updates to the Board. The High School Roofing Project and Door Project have been completed. The Lincoln School Canopy Project is waiting for warmer temperatures to be able to put the roof on the canopy. The project should be completed before Christmas. We are waiting on Marion Concrete regarding the Washington School Drainage Project. The Jefferson School project is finalizing designs for construction. We are also waiting to receive notification if the District received the Early Childhood Grant for construction. The Unit Office is finalizing designs for the new office.

Motion made by Jimmy Dean and seconded by Chad Barras to approve the School Maintenance Grant for flooring at Washington School and the High School.

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Greg Smiley and seconded by Chad Barras to set the December Board meeting time at 6:00 p.m.

Voting Aye: Barras, Dean, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Keven Stroud and seconded by Greg Smiley to approve the High School Dance Team overnight trip to the IDTS State Competition in Springfield, IL on February 10, 2023 – February 12, 2023.

Voting Aye: Barras, Dean, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Jimmy Dean and seconded by Keven Stroud to approve a resolution and contract to purchase real property located at 1113 Grand Avenue, Johnston City.

Voting Aye: Barras, Dean, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Mrs. Clark informed the Board that the District received a FOIA request from Garrett Smith, a student at the SIU School of Journalism.

Motion made by Chad Barras and seconded by Greg Smiley to approve the following actions regarding personnel: accept the resignation of Stephanie Wilson as the Middle School Boys’ Track Coach, and to post the Middle School Boys’ Track Coach position for the 2022-2023 school year, an anticipated Latchkey Supervisor vacancy, and a High School Science Teacher position and a High School Business Teacher position for the 2023-2024 school year.

Voting Aye: Barras, Dean, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Mrs. Clark informed the Board that the District band and chorus concert will be held on December 15, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.

Motion made Greg Smiley and seconded by Randy McIntosh to adjourn the meeting at 7:15 p.m.
