Johnston City Community Unit School District 1 Board met Aug.18.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of the Johnston City Community Unit School District No. 1 met at a regular Board meeting with Closed Session beginning at 6:49 p.m. and the Public Hearing Concerning the intent of the Board of Education to sell $5,000,000 Working Cash Fund Bonds and $2,144,000 School Fire Prevention and Safety Bonds beginning at 7:01 p.m. at the Johnston City Community Unit School District No. 1 Unit Office, 200 E. 12th Street, Johnston City, IL. President Chris Cullum called the meeting to order and asked the clerk for the attendance roll call.

ROLL CALL

Present: Jimmy Dean, Patti Martin, Randy McIntosh, Greg Smiley, Keven Stroud, and Chris Cullum

Absent: Chad Barras

Motion made by Keven Stroud and seconded by Jimmy Dean to hold the Public Hearing Concerning the intent of the Board of Education to sell $5,000,000 Working Cash Fund Bonds and $2,144,000 School Fire Prevention and Safety Bonds.

Voting Aye: Dean, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

There were no public comments.

Motion made by Keven Stroud and seconded by Jimmy Dean to adjourn the Public Hearing Concerning the intent of the Board of Education to sell $5,000,000 Working Cash Fund Bonds and $2,144,000 School Fire Prevention and Safety Bonds at 7:05 p.m.

Voting Aye: Dean, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

President Chris Cullum called the regular meeting to order at 7:06 p.m. and asked the clerk for the attendance roll call.

ROLL CALL

Present: Jimmy Dean, Patti Martin, Randy McIntosh, Greg Smiley, Keven Stroud, and Chris Cullum

Absent: Chad Barras

Motion made by Keven Stroud and seconded by Jimmy Dean to approve the consent agenda consisting of the following:

A. Approval of the Regular and Closed Session and Minutes of the 7/21/22 Regular Meeting

B. Approval of Treasurer’s Report

C. Approval of the Section 125 Flexible Spending Plan Agreement

Voting Aye: Dean, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Patti Martin and seconded by Keven Stroud to approve the bills for payment.

Voting Aye: Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Abstaining: Dean

Motion Carried.

Greg Smiley left at 7:08 p.m.

Motion made by Keven Stroud and seconded by Patti Martin to award the Lincoln Canopy Project to Evrard Strang Construction INC. in the amount of $198,971.00.

Voting Aye: Dean, Martin, McIntosh, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Greg Smiley returned at 7:12 p.m.

Motion made by Patti Martin and seconded by Keven Stroud to approve the Tentative FY23 Budget

Voting Aye: Dean, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Jimmy Dean and seconded by Keven Stroud to set the public hearing for the FY23 Budget on Monday, September 19, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. and move the regular September meeting to Monday, September 19, 2022.

Voting Aye: Dean, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Jimmy Dean and seconded by Keven Stroud to declare items surplus as presented.

Voting Aye: Dean, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Patti Martin and seconded by Keven Stroud to accept the bids on surplus items as presented.

Voting Aye: Dean, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Jimmy Dean and seconded by Keven Stroud to accept the resignation of Jennifer Rabideau as a High School English Teacher.

Voting Aye: Dean, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Randy McIntosh and seconded by Greg Smiley to employ Cori Ashmore as a High School English Teacher, Dawn Simpson as a 5th-8th Grade English Language Arts Teacher, Elisia Lancaster as a District Social Work Intern, Dr. Mike Smith as Middle School and High School Music Teacher and Band Director, Shannon Phillips as a Lincoln School Morning Duty Aide, and Maci Johns, Alex Johnson, Peyton Shelton, and Noah Scarbrough as Latchkey High School Student Workers.

Voting Aye: Dean, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Jimmy Dean and seconded by Keven Stroud to approve Jinna Glasco as a Volunteer High School Assistant Cheerleading Coach and Tiffany Dobraski as a Volunteer Middle School Assistant Scholar Bowl Coach.

Voting Aye: Dean, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Randy McIntosh and seconded by Greg Smiley to adjourn the meeting at 8:10 p.m.
