Johnston City Community Unit School District 1 Board met June 28.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education of the Johnston City Community Unit School District No. 1 met at a regular Board meeting held with Closed Session beginning at 6:45 p.m. and the public hearing regarding the FY22 Amended Budget beginning at 7:01 p.m. at the Johnston City Community Unit School District No. 1 Unit Office, 200 E. 12th Street, Johnston City, IL. President Chris Cullum called the meeting to order and asked the clerk for the attendance roll call.

ROLL CALL

Present: Chad Barras, Patti Martin, Randy McIntosh, Greg Smiley, Keven Stroud, and Chris Cullum

Absent: Jimmy Dean

Motion made by Greg Smiley and seconded by Keven Stroud to hold the Public Hearing regarding FY22 Amended Budget.

Voting Aye: Barras, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

There were no public comments.

Motion made by Chad Barras and seconded by Greg Smiley to adjourn the Public Hearing regarding FY22 Amended Budget at 7:07 p.m.

Voting Aye: Barras, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

President Chris Cullum called the regular meeting to order at 7:08 p.m. and asked the clerk for the attendance roll call.

ROLL CALL

Present: Chad Barras, Patti Martin, Randy McIntosh, Greg Smiley, Keven Stroud, and Chris Cullum

Absent: Jimmy Dean

Motion made by Chad Barras and seconded by Patti Martin to approve the consent agenda consisting of the following:

A. Approval of the Regular and Closed Session and Minutes of the 5/19/22 Regular Meeting and the Regular Session and Minutes of the 5/31/22 Special Meeting B. Approval of Treasurer’s Report

C. Approval of Bills for Payment

Voting Aye: Barras, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Patti Martin and seconded by Greg Smiley to approve the IASB PRESS Updates – 2nd reading and to choose the default answer on all questions.

Voting Aye: Barras, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Jim Siefert, Hurst-Rosche, presented the Lincoln School Canopy/Pavilion Project bids.

Motion made by Randy McIntosh and seconded by Keven Stroud to reject the Lincoln School Canopy/Pavilion Project bids and authorized Hurst-Rosche to rebid the Lincoln School Canopy/Pavilion Project with modifications.

Voting Aye: Barras, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Jim Siefert, Hurst-Rosche, provided construction project updates to the Board. The High School Door Project is complete. They will be meeting to go over the punch list for the High School Roofing Project. The Washington School Parking Lot Project has started and will take approximately two (2) weeks to complete. The Health/Life/Safety Amendment for asbestos abatement at Jefferson School has been submitted.

Motion made by Randy McIntosh and seconded by Patti Martin to approve the FY22 Amended Budget as presented.

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Chad Barras and seconded by Greg Smiley to direct the superintendent to prepare the FY23 District Budget.

Voting Aye: Barras, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Randy McIntosh and seconded by Greg Smiley to set the 2022-2023 fees as presented.

Voting Aye: Barras, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Keven Stroud and seconded by Randy McIntosh to set accept the surplus property bids as presented.

Voting Aye: Barras, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Chad Barras and seconded by Keven Stroud to declare the weight room power racks as surplus property.

Voting Aye: Barras, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Patti Martin and seconded by Randy McIntosh to approve the District Wide Insurance as presented.

Voting Aye: Barras, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Randy McIntosh and seconded by Patti Martin to approve the Middle School Dance Team out of state trip to Busch Stadium in St. Louis, MO on August 13, 2022.

Voting Aye: Barras, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Patti Martin and seconded by Greg Smiley to approve the handbook changes to the High School, Middle School, Elementary School and Extracurricular handbooks.

Voting Aye: Barras, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Chad Barras and seconded by Greg Smiley to approve the Consolidated District Plan as presented.

Voting Aye: Barras, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Randy McIntosh and seconded by Greg Smiley to accept the resignation of Kaisha Cook as High School Assistant Principal, to employ Troy Johnson as a High School Science Teacher, Kristi Rix as High School Assistant Principal, Natalie Jamison as a High School Student Support Aide, Travis Brown as High School Wrestling Coach, Jaimi Kerley as Junior High School Cheerleading Sponsor, Courtney Childers as 5th and 6th Grade Girls’ Basketball Coach, and to approve Ashley Carmickle as a Volunteer Assistant High School Girls’ Volleyball Coach, and Katie Cully as a Volunteer High School Swim Team Coach.

Voting Aye: Barras, Martin, McIntosh, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Mrs. Clark informed the Board that the District has received a scholarship from the Stress and Trauma Treatment Center for our membership fees in the Resilient Southern Illinois Program for the 2022-2023 school year.

Mrs. Clark informed the Board that the Johnston City Police Department is working on a program to offer free safety training for staff.

Motion made by Keven Stroud and seconded by Randy McIntosh to adjourn the meeting at 7:41 p.m.
