Carbondale 56th-highest taxed Illinois municipality in December 2021

Carbondale taxpayers paid the 56th highest amount in sales taxes in December 2021, according to Illinois tax records.

Taxpayers in Carbondale paid $1.4 million in December 2021.

Carbondale was ranked 51st the month before.

Of all the taxes Carbondale residents paid for, Municipal Home Rule Sales Tax was the most contributed to tax.

Illinois is the highest taxed state in the US.

A 2021 study from Wallet Hub found Illinois taxes are 38.95 percent higher than the national average.
