Report: Murphysboro School District spent $12,137 per student in 2019-20

Spending per pupil at Murphysboro Community Unit School District 186 was up 6.1 percent from five years ago, according to the Carbondale Reporter analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card district finances.

The Illinois State Board of Education 2019-20 report card showed the Jackson County school district spent $11,443 per pupil in 2015-16. It spent $12,137 in 2019-20.

The district's enrollment fell from 2,138 to 1,947 students over the same period.

Murphysboro's spending in 2019-20 was 16.3 percent lower than the state average of $14,492.
