Carbondale Non-Bargaining Unit Employees Personnel Board recently issued the following announcement.
Following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), Governor JB Pritzker has issued Executive Order #2021-10, which eases requirements for face coverings and social distancing for residents that are fully vaccinated. The City of Carbondale will follow the guidelines set in the Executive Order and align the City’s mask mandate by removing the mask requirement for fully vaccinated individuals in most settings. This change is effective immediately.
Although businesses can implement their own mask policies, each business must still abide by the Restore Illinois Bridge Phase guidelines regarding capacity limits.

Unvaccinated individuals should continue wearing a mask, socially distancing, and washing hands frequently until the State of Illinois has reached Phase 5 of the Restore Illinois Plan or until CDC guidance says it is safe to do so. The City Council strongly encourages all residents to get vaccinated as soon as possible. To receive the vaccine, the Jackson County Health Department will continue hosting its mass vaccination clinic at the Banterra Center through Saturday, May 22. The health department will then administer vaccines at the health department in Murphysboro two days a week – on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and Thursdays from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. You can make an appointment at jchdonline.org, but walk-ins will be accepted.
