State Representative Dave Severin (R-Benton) has called for the repeal of Illinois' TRUST Act and the state's sanctuary policies. Severin argues that these policies compromise public safety and impose financial burdens on taxpayers.
“Gov. Pritzker has made Illinois a destination for illegal immigrants,” Severin said. “Illinois is now home to more than 550,000 illegal immigrants. That’s 4% of our total population. Working families can’t afford to provide billions in benefits to non-citizens. It’s time to end Illinois’ sanctuary state status and repeal the TRUST Act today.”
Severin is supporting HB 1317, a bill that would end Illinois’ designation as a sanctuary state by repealing the TRUST Act. He hopes lawmakers will address this legislation during the upcoming fall Veto Session.
“Crime in Chicago is out of control, and spending is out of control thanks to the failed Sanctuary State policies that we have in Illinois,” Severin said. “In October, lawmakers will gather to consider potential tax increases to pay for a transit bailout. Instead, I would encourage my colleagues to gather the political courage to do the right thing and repeal our Sanctuary State law so we can start to address illegal immigrant crime and save taxpayers billions of dollars.”
Severin was elected as a Republican representative for Illinois’ 116th House District in 2023, succeeding David Friess.
