Illinois is currently working on reinstating federal unemployment programs that will benefit residents whose benefits have expired temporarily, according to The Southern Illinoisan.
Approximately 450,000 Illinois residents recently had their unemployment benefits temporarily lapse when President Trump delayed the signing of the $900 billion coronavirus relief package and benefits attached to last spring's $2.2 trillion stimulus package expired on Dec. 26, according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
Labor officials say people will still be paid for the end of December.
Unemployed Illinoisans can expect the new stimulus package to restore federal unemployment programs that will pay missed unemployment benefits retroactively, add an extra $300 in weekly benefits and add new programs for mixed-income workers.
“As states are implementing these new provisions as quickly as possible, the Department does not anticipate that eligible claimants will miss a week of benefits due to the timing of the law’s enactment,” The U.S. Department of Labor said in a statement.
