Charities and non-profit organizations have been struggling to secure funding this year due to COVID-19, and in an effort to make it easier for people to give a helping hand, the Internal Revenue Service wants to remind tax payers of a new special provision that allows up to $300 in cash donations to qualifying charities, to be deducted when filing their 2020 taxes.

Donations made to the City of Carbondale Parks and Recreation Foundation Fund can be deducted under the special provision, which is considered a temporary tax change enacted under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, according to an IRS press release.

All donations to the City of Carbondale Parks and Recreation Foundation Fund will be used to offer recreational programming opportunities, improve public parks, recreational spaces, and properties that are owned and managed by the City of Carbondale, according to a city press release.
