Healthcare

Carbondale Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement.

Jackson County Health Department was notified in the past 24 hours of twelve Jackson County residents confirmed to have contracted COVID-19. The individuals are as follows:

• Female – one under ten, one pre-teen, two teens, one in her twenties, and one in her thirties;

• Male – one pre-teen, one in his twenties, one in his thirties, one in his sixties, and two in their seventies.

They acquired the disease either through contact with known cases or through transmission in the community (i.e., unable to trace back to a known source). They are being placed in isolation.

Eighty active cases are currently being managed. To date, there have been 891 confirmed cases in the county, including 21 related deaths. Eight individuals were released from isolation, in accordance with CDC guidelines, bringing the total released to 790 individuals. All data is preliminary and subject to change.

Two providers are conducting COVID-19 testing of eligible individuals in Jackson County: Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH) – Call 1-844-988-7800; and Shawnee Health Service – Call 618-519-9200. Call one of them, or your healthcare provider, to inquire about getting tested.

In related COVID-19 matters: The State of Illinois has updated its guidance to bars and restaurants under Phase 4 of the “Restore Illinois” plan. Newly added is the following minimum guideline: Patrons should wear face coverings when approached or serviced by an employee and when picking up carry out orders.

Also newly added is the encouraged best practice of patrons wearing face coverings when picking up food at a drive-thru window. These additions help to reduce the risk of transmission between wait staff and patrons. Links to Phase 4 guidance can be found at www.jchdonline.org.
