The Illinois Supreme Court recently approved a new rule that requires an eviction complaint to have attached the relevant portions of the lease and a copy of the written eviction notice.
The new regulation, called Rule 139, helps to clarify the positions of everyone involved in an eviction case, included the judges. It went into effect immediately.
“This new rule will help self-represented parties on both sides of eviction cases and also the judges hearing these cases by requiring key information at the outset,” Chief Justice Anne Burke said in a release issued on the Illinois Courts website. “I would like to thank the Supreme Court Commission on Access to Justice for the development of this important new rule and the Supreme Court Rules Committee for its review.”
The new rule was initially suggested by the Circuit Court of Cook County Pro Se Advisory Committee to the Supreme Court Commission on Access to Justice.
