Carbondale Non-Bargaining Unit Employees Personnel Board recently issues the following announcement.
On 05-11-2020 at approximately 6:21 p.m., officers responded to the 700 block of South Lewis Lane in reference to a report of a person displaying a firearm. Officers located the suspect, identified as Kevonta Thomas, 24 years old of Carbondale, who fled on foot into a residence.
At approximately 10:00 pm, Thomas fled from the residence in a vehicle and was pursued by officers. Officers stopped Thomas and he was arrested without further incident.
Officers charged Thomas with being an Armed Habitual Criminal, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Aggravated Assault, Disorderly Conduct, Criminal Trespass to Real Property and Resisting/Obstructing a Peace Officer for the original incident. Thomas was also charged with Aggravated Fleeing to Elude, Reckless Driving and several other traffic violations.
Thomas was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Police Department at 618-457-3200 or Crime Stoppers at 618-549-COPS. The investigation is currently active and ongoing.
