AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSEUM OF SOUTHERN ILLINOIS: DIY Home Decor Projects Anyone Can Do

Hgo

African American Museum of Southern Illinois recently issues the following announcement.

Whether you’re looking for a way to boost your creativity, your home is in need of a facelift, or you’re simply looking to pass some time, DIY projects are never a bad idea. Of course, though, knowing what projects are within your capabilities is key to finding a DIY project that results in a piece of home decor you’re actually proud to display.

And so, with that in mind, we’ve got 5 DIY home decor projects for you that are all manageable for the average DIY enthusiast. No complicated techniques or power tools necessary.

Are you ready to get creative while sprucing up your home? Try out one of these DIY home decor projects:

Paint your furniture

One of the easiest DIY furniture projects that is available to anyone and everyone, painting your furniture is a great place to start. Whether you want to brighten up your furniture with a coat of modern white paint, or you’re looking for something a little more bold, like a blue or red, we highly recommend all beginners start with a simple furniture painting exercise. Trust us, it’ll make all the difference in your home.

Reupholster furniture

Do you have a chair that’s lacking a little something? Maybe you’re tired of looking at the same outdated pattern day in and day out. If you’re nodding your head in agreement, it’s time to try your hand at reupholstering your furniture. While this might take a little more skill with a needle and thread, there are plenty of tutorials out there that will walk you through step-by-step so you end up with a piece of furniture that looks brand new.

Ladder towel/blanket rack

Sure, you can hang your hand towels on any old towel rack, but if you want to give your bathroom that extra special touch, we highly recommend trying out a DIY towel rack.

Really all you need for this DIY project is an old rustic looking ladder. You’ll then want to remove the backside of the ladder, give it a nice sand, and possibly a coat of paint or a stain, and voila, each rung of the ladder becomes the perfect spot to hang your favorite towels. Or, alternatively, you can hang a throw blanket from one of the rungs.

Change a vase into a lamp

Maybe you’ve had your eye on a beautiful vase, but you don’t want to add any more vases to your already large collection.

But hey, what if you could turn that vase into a lamp? Well, lucky for you, with plenty of hardware shops selling lighting kits, adding a decorative lamp shade to your favorite vase is an easy way to transform a vase into a functional piece of home decor.

Have you tried knitting or crochet?

If you have time to spare and you’re looking to learn a new skill, knitting and crochet are excellent outlets for creativity. You can make pillows and blankets for your home in any color that you wish. Not to mention, this skill can also translate into clothing, accessories, and even children’s toys. Trust us, learning to knit or to crochet is a hobby that you won’t regret picking up.

So, tell us, which of these DIY projects are you thinking best suits your skills? Are you looking to add a fresh coat of paint to a piece of furniture, or are you more inclined to get creative with yarn? Either way, no matter what DIY project you choose to embark on, we’ve got a feeling you’re going to catch the DIY bug in no time.

Let’s get crafty, shall we?
