Heartland Regional has enough PPE for now, but is still accepting donations.

While medical facilities around the country are facing a shortage of personal protection equipment, which is essential in the fight against COVID-19, Heartland Regional Medical Center has a sufficient supply on hand for now.

They are "appropriately stocked," according to the Southern Illinoisan and they are grateful to members of the community that helped make that happen.

“We have been humbled by the community donations of masks and other supplies that have come in thus far,” Heartland Regional CEO Ed Cunningham told the Southern Illinoisan.

The medical center is still accepting donations as the COVID-19 pandemic is far from over.

Leadership at the medical center wants to make sure members of the community know how best to help keep their medical staff safe.

The hospital wants to make sure they are following specific clinical protocols given by the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization as it pertains to extended use and reuse of PPE, according to the Southern Illinoisan.

Donations of cloth masks from the public are helping them preserve and conserve PPE and surgical masks. Anyone wishing to donate medical supplies need to make sure those supplies are coming from a verifiable vendor source.

The supplies should be in unopened boxes or in individually wrapped packages because they need to meet internal certifications and safety requirements, according to the Southern Illinoisan.

At this time, the hospital is accepting donations of surgical mask, N95 masks, sterile collection swaps, disinfectant wipes, cloth masks, surgical gowns, patient exam gloves, bunny suits, disposable face shields, boot covers, reusable half mask respirators, goggles, and non-disposable face shields. Anyone who wants to make a donation can email Heartland Regional Emergency Manager Nikolas Fort at nikolas_fort@quorumhealth.com.
