Q1 2019 Parolees Recap: Who was paroled in Jackson County?

There were 12 offenders released on parole during the first quarter that live in Jackson County, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by Carbondale Reporter.

The data shows that 10 men and two women were released in Jackson County. Of the parolees, one is a veteran, and the median age is 32. The youngest parolee was a 22-year-old man sentenced for a property crime in 2017, and the oldest was a 55-year-old man sentenced for a crime involving one or more weapons in 2018.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Michael C. Barefield. He was convicted of a crime involving one or more weapons in 2013 when he was 24 years old. He is now 31.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
