Former state university employee Cobau paid in $33K to pension fund, could collect $503K in retirement

Former state university employee Rebecca Cobau, who retired in June 2018, saved $32,932 toward a pension over 10 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Cobau would collect as much as $503,469, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Carbondale Reporter.

The projection assumes Cobau received $10,582 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Cobau will have already received $44,270 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
