Carbondale Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement.
The Jackson County Health Department (JCHD) is having a back-to-school health and activity
fair on Tuesday, August 7th from 3pm-6pm. Children who participate in the services and
games will receive a free backpack and school supplies, along with other vendor giveaways.
There will be games, health educational materials, the chance to meet community partners,
and an opportunity to experience the extended clinic hours now provided at JCHD until 6:00
p.m. on Tuesday nights.
Our Little Free Library will be open for you to take home a book for your child. Other free
services include height and weight checks for an accurate Body Mass Index (BMI), evaluations
for WIC eligibility, healthy snacks and recipes, and car seat safety checks by the Carbondale
Police Department. The Dental Safari van will be on site to offer dental exams, cleaning,
fluoride treatments and sealants. Immunizations and vision and hearing screenings will also
be available. As a Vaccine for Children provider, JCHD provides reduced-cost or free
immunizations to eligible children under 19 years of age. Most insurance plans are accepted,
including all of the Medicaid Managed Care Organizations (MCOs). MCO representatives will
be present to answer your questions about services and assist you with choosing the best plan
for your family. Bring your child out for a fun-filled evening and prepare for the new school
year!
