SOUTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE: Over 60? Visit A Health Clinic Designed for You

Southern Illinois University School of Medicine recently issued the following announcement.

If you’re over 60, you need a health care team who can help you stay healthy and active in the years ahead.

“As our bodies age, our health care needs change,” says David Jeong, MD, Director of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at SIU Medicine.

Dr. Jeong and other providers at SIU Center for Family and Community Medicine in Springfield understand the needs of older adults and the care you need to meet the challenges of age.

From primary care services such as annual Medicare wellness visits to specialized, complex care, the SIU family medicine’s team approach helps seniors maintain their quality of life. Staff includes specially-trained doctors and nurses, including geriatric nurse practitioner Andrea Peters and also dietitians, social workers, a pharmacist and an advance-care planning specialist.

Personalized care includes:

Medicare wellness visit (age 65 and older or any Medicare beneficiary)

Exercise counseling

Medicine management

Memory problems

Walking/gait disorders

Imbalance and falls

Incontinence

Depression

Joint pain

Advance Care Planning

Special morning appointments are reserved for seniors on Mondays and Thursdays. Make an appointment at the Geriatric Clinic by calling 217-545-8000 and ask for the Center for Family Medicine in Springfield.
