CARBONDALE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: Vote for Carbondale's Most Beautiful Spot

Vote 09

Carbondale Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement.

Six locations in Carbondale are vying for “Carbondale’s most beautiful spot” and everyone is invited to vote for their favorite. The contest is sponsored by Keep Carbondale Beautiful as a way of celebrating its birthday (KCB was born on July 28, 1987). Since only one photo of each is published, the public is encouraged to visit all locations:

--Campus Lake (including the new boathouse) on SIU Campus: “great walking path”

--Rothrock Prairie at Green Earth’s Oakland Nature Preserve (1201 N Oakland): “cup plant is in bloom now”

--Streetscape along the Lower Strip (Illinois Avenue): “love those lamps”

--Labyrinth Peace Park (including the water feature) by Gaia House (913 S Illinois Ave): “a lot of work has been done”

--Longbranch Café’s outdoor terrace (100 E Jackson St): “I love to sit out there, especially when their flower boxes and wisteria are blooming.”

--Castle Park (31 Homewood Dr, off Giant City Rd): Jeremy “Boo” Rochman Memorial Park is “outside city limits, but the committee voted to have its nomination move forward.”

Voting is limited to one vote per person and can happen on Facebook (leave a comment), by texting or calling 618 525-5525, or by emailing keepcb1326@gmail.com. The committee thanks all those who nominated locations. Votes received before midnight July 26 will be tallied and the winner will be announced on July 27, shortly after 7 p.m., at the Fourth Friday Fair.
