Rep. Terri Bryant (R-Murphsyboro) had special students to introduce in the speaker's gallery.
At the May 22 House floor debate, Bryant proudly pointed out the Murphysboro Middle School's eighth-grade volleyball team when presenting them with HR1069.
“As the resolution says, they are the Class L State Champions in the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association,” Bryant said.

The team is extra special to Bryant for two reasons, she said.
“First because I live in Murphysboro, and second because my daughter played for the Murphysboro Middle School for three years from sixth grade to eighth grade, and she also had to put up with Coach (Mike) Layne,” Bryant said.
Bryant said though Coach Layne can drive the girls pretty hard, it is well worth it.
“I will tell you, ladies, that Coach Layne pushes you because he wants the very best for you,” Bryant said, adding the combined grade point average of the students is between 3.7 and 4.0. “That is ever more applaudable.”
