A new bill aims to make certain that all Southern Illinois University campuses are put on an equal playing field as it relates to state funding from Springfield.
House Bill 5859 seeks to amend the Southern Illinois University Management Act, stipulating that starting with the 2018-2019 academic school year, the same amount of money appropriated to the SIU-Carbondale must be provided to SIU-Edwardsville.
Recently referred back to a House Rules Committee, the bill is sponsored by Rep. Katie Stuart (D-Edwardsville), who represents the 112th district. It includes all or parts of Caseyville, Collinsville Edwardsville, Fairview Heights, Glen Carbon, Granite City, Marryville and O'Fallon.
The bill is co-sponsored by Reps. Jay Hoffman (D-Swansea), Latoya Greenwood (D-East S. Louis) and Monica Bristow (D-Godfrey).
