Johnston City Community Unit School District 1 Board met January 16.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The Board of Education of the Johnston City Community Unit School District No. 1 met at a regular Board meeting held on January 16, 2018 with Closed Session beginning at 6:15 p.m. and the regular meeting beginning at 7:09 p.m. at the Unit Office, 200 E. 12th Street, Johnston City, IL. President Chris Cullum called the meeting to order and asked the clerk for the attendance roll call.

Roll Call:

Present: Chad Barras, Randy Brymer, John Etherton, Lori Linton, Greg Smiley, Keven Stroud, and Chris Cullum

Absent: None

Motion made by Greg Smiley and seconded by Chad Barras to approve the consent agenda consisting of the following:

A. Approval of the Regular and Closed Session minutes for the December 18, 2017 regular meeting;

B. Approval of the Treasurer’s Report;

C. Approval of the Bills for Payment;

Voting Aye: Barras, Brymer, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Keven Stroud and seconded by Randy Brymer to approve and adopt the second reading of the IASB Press Policy Updates.

Voting Aye: Barras, Brymer, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Chad Barras and seconded by Lori Linton to approve the Board Committee Assignments as presented.

Voting Aye: Barras, Brymer, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Discussion was held regarding the 2018-2019 school calendar. Mrs. Clark is still working on a final calendar.

Motion made by Greg Smiley and seconded by Keven Stroud to approve the extended 5th -6th grade girls’ basketball season.

Voting Aye: Barras, Brymer, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Lori Linton and seconded by Greg Smiley to authorize the development of bid specifications and the solicitation of bids for the Transportation Contract.

Voting Aye: Barras, Brymer, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Randy Brymer and seconded by Keven Stroud to approve the out of state trip request from the High School Health Science classes to the Shriner’s Hospital in St. Louis, MO on April 3, 2018 and the request for the High School Ag students to attend the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, KY on February 17, 2018.

Voting Aye: Barras, Brymer, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Motion made by Greg Smiley and seconded by Lori Linton to approve the sponsor change for the High School Art trip to Italy from Kathy Rushing to Elizabeth Grear.

Voting Aye: Barras, Brymer, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion made by Chad Barras and seconded by Lori Linton to approve the parental leave of absence and authorize the FMLA leave, to run concurrently, of Jennifer Rabideau.

Voting Aye: Barras, Brymer, Etherton, Linton, Smiley, Stroud, and Cullum

Motion Carried.

Mrs. Clark updated the Board on the General State Aid funding.

Mrs. Clark informed the Board that the Middle School Girls’ Basketball Team won their regional and will be playing the first round of the IJHSAA State Tournament on January 19, 2018 at 3:30 p.m. at Rend Lake College.

Mrs. Clark presented the Athletics Committee Report. Mr. Josh Pietrantoni, IHSA Athletic Director, is getting quotes to strip the gym floor at the high school. He is also checking to see if there would be a discount if the gym floor at Washington Middle School was done at the same time. Estimates have been received to upgrade the baseball field at the Athletic Complex. Mr. Pietrantoni is looking into applying for funds from the Harrison Bruce Foundation.

Mrs. Lori Linton, Board Member, informed the Board that she has applied for the District’s Director of Finance and Accounting position. Mrs. Linton informed the Board that if she were to receive an interview for the position that she would resign her seat on the Board of Education.

Motion made Lori Linton and seconded by Keven Stroud to adjourn the meeting at 7:48 p.m.
