Elverado Community Unit School District 196 Board met Oct. 19.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

1. Member attendance: Mr. Bernardini, present; Mr. Funk, present; Mrs. Jeschke, absent (arrived at 6:05); Mr. Keith, absent; Mr. Schafer, present; Mrs. Sherman, present; Mr. Wisely, present. Others in attendance: Superintendent, Kevin Spain; Principals, Jeremy Pierce and Belinda Conner.

2. A motion was made by Mrs. Sherman and seconded by Mr. Bernardini to approve the consent agenda of the following items: 2.1; 2.2;2.3;2.4 and 2.5. Upon Roll Call Vote, Board Members voted as follows: Mr. Bernardini, yes; Mr. Funk, yes; Mrs. Jeschke, absent; Mr. Keith, absent; Mr. Schafer; Mrs. Sherman, yes; Mr. Wisely, yes. Motion Carried.

3. Visitors and Recognition: Kevin Batteau, Kujawa and Batteau is in attendance to present the audit. President of the Art Club, Flynn Balow speaks to the Board about painting murals to brighten up the school. The Board all agrees and gives permission for the art club to paint murals and these will be supervised and approved my Mr. Pierce. Mr. Pierce recognizes Melissa Sarensen for the Future Medical Leaders conference and the good experience she has had with them.

4. EEA Report: Nothing to report

5. Laborer’s Local 773 Report: Nothing to report.

6. Administrative Reports: Mr. Pierce: Discusses ball games. He says the boiler is installed and working. We signed an agreement with Marshal Browning Group regarding school kids participating in that program. IHSA is not willing to change numbers for Murphysboro to keep the football co-op. As of now, we will need to find a new co-op. Vogler Ford wants to do a check presentation at a ball game, as they have raised $5000 for our school. Mrs. Conner: We won the state Championship in softball. The Beta Club induction ceremony was last week. They are currently working on a Veteran’s day incentive and giving soldiers for good behavior.

Mr. Spain: We have a sink hole at the primary school, and will wait to pour sidewalk until spring. American Watchdog-FOIA. We will get our first school facilities tax check on 11/5. Discussion is held on lawn mowers and sizes.

7. Old Business

7.1 Discuss County School Facility Sales Tax and Facilities: Discussion is held, we should receive first check around 11/5.

8. New Business: 8.1: A motion was made by Mr. Bernardini and seconded by Mr. Wisely to approve the FY17 School District Audit as presented. On Roll Call Vote, Board Members voted as follows: Mr. Funk, yes; Mrs. Jeschke, yes; Mr. Schafer, yes; Mrs. Sherman, yes; Mr. Wisely, yes; Mr. Bernardini, yes. Motion Carried.

8.2 Motion is made by Mr. Bernardini and seconded by Mrs. Sherman to approve the Administrator and Teacher Salary and Benefits report. Upon Roll Call Vote, Board Members voted as follows: Mrs. Jeschke, yes; Mr. Schafer, yes; Mrs. Sherman, yes; Mr. Wisely, yes; Mr. Bernardini, yes; Mr. Funk, yes. Motion Carried.

8.3 Discuss Homecoming: A discussion is held and the Board agrees that we will not be moving homecoming at this time.

9. Executive Session

A motion is made by Mr. Bernardini and seconded by Mr. Wisely to adjourn in to closed session to discuss: The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body. Collective negotiating matters between the Board and its employees. Matters regarding individual students. Upon Roll Call Vote, Board Members voted as follows: Mr. Schafer, yes; Mrs. Sherman, yes; Mr. Wisely, yes; Mr. Bernardini, yes; Mr. Funk, yes; Mrs. Jeschke, yes. Motion Carried. Board went into executive Session at 7:12pm.

A motion was made by Mrs. Jeschke and seconded my Mr. Wisely to return to open session at 8:24pm. Upon Roll Call vote, all Board members voted aye. Motion Carried.

10. Possible Action Items to Follow Executive Session

10.1 A Motion was made by Mr. Funk and seconded by Mrs. Jeschke to accept the resignation of Claudia Rheineker. Upon Roll Call Vote, Board Members voted as follows: Mr. Schafer, yes; Mrs. Sherman, yes; Mr. Wisely, yes; Mr. Bernardini, yes; Mr. Funk, yes; Mrs. Jeschke, yes. Motion Carried.

10.2 A motion was made by Mrs. Sherman and seconded by Mr. Bernardini to accept the resignation from Alison Keith as cook. Upon Roll Call Vote, Board Members voted as follows: Mrs. Sherman, yes; Mr. Wisely, yes; and Mr. Bernardini, yes; Mr. Funk, no; Mrs. Jeschke, yes; Mr. Schafer, yes. Motion Carried.

10.3.1 Motion is made by Mr. Wisely and seconded by Mr. Funk to employ Andrea Mize as part time Title I teacher at BS+0 Step 4. Upon Roll Call Vote, Board Members voted as follows: Mr. Wisely, yes; Mr. Bernardini, yes; Mr. Funk, yes; Mrs. Jeschke, yes; Mr. Schafer, yes; Mrs. Sherman, yes. Motion carried.

10.3.2 Motion is made by Mrs. Jeschke, and seconded by Mr. Bernardini to employ Krysta Brown as part time Title I Teacher at BS+0 Step 0. Upon Roll Call Vote, Board Members voted as follows: Mr. Bernardini, yes; Mr. Funk, yes; Mrs. Jeschke, yes; Mr. Schafer, yes; Mrs. Sherman, yes; Mr. Wisely, yes. Motion Carried.

10.4 Motion is made by Mr. Funk and seconded by Mrs. Sherman to approve the Certified Seniority List. Upon Roll Call vote, Board Members voted as follows: Mr. Funk, yes; Mrs. Jeschke, yes; Mr. Schafer, yes; Mrs. Sherman, yes; Mr. Wisely, yes; Mr. Bernardini, yes. Motion Carried.

10.5 Motion is made by Mr. Bernardini and seconded by Mr. Wisely to approve student suspensions as presented. Upon Roll Call Vote, Board Members voted as follows: Mrs. Jeschke, yes; Mr. Schafer, yes; Mrs. Sherman, yes; Mr. Wisely, yes; Mr. Bernardini, yes; Mr. Funk, yes;. Motion Carried.

11. Comments: Mr. Wisely says thank you to Dowell, Elkville, and Vergennes fire and police departments for participating in the Softball Championship parade and to Mrs. Conner for the party at the school.

12. Adjournment

A motion was made by Mr. Wisely and seconded by Mr. Bernardini to adjourn at 8:32 pm with the next regular meeting scheduled at 6:00pm on November 16, 2017. All seven Board Members in favor, and voted “yea” Motion Carried.
