Carbondale Community High School District 165 Board of Education met June 15.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

Upon roll call, the following members were present:

Kathy Booziotis; Francis Tsung; Linda Flowers; Julie VanWinkle; Joe Hudgins; Brian Woodard

Also present were:

Stephen Murphy; Daniel Booth; Donna Fager; Mandy McKee

President Woodard declared a quorum present and the regular scheduled meeting of June 15, 2017, was called to order.

Approval of Minutes: Motion by Flowers, seconded by Tsung, to approve the minutes of the regular scheduled meeting of May 17, 2017. Roll call: Booziotis, Flowers, Tsung, VanWinkle and Woodard voted yes. Member Hudgins voted present. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Old Business: There were no old business items.

Student Services Department Presentation: Special Education Director Mandy McKee did a presentation for the Board on the Student Services Department.

Public Comments: There were no public comments.

Payment of Bills: Motion by Tsung, seconded by Hudgins, to pay the remaining bills for the month of May, 2017; and, those available for payment for the month of June, 2017. Roll call: Flowers, Hudgins, Tsung, VanWinkle, Woodard and Booziotis voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

2017-18 Title I District Plan: Motion by Flowers, seconded by Booziotis, to approve the 2017-18 Title I District Plan as presented. Roll call: Hudgins, Tsung, VanWinkle, Woodard, Booziotis and Flowers voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

2017-18 Milk and Bread Products Bids: Motion by Tsung, seconded by Hudgins, to acknowledge receipt of the bids received for 2017-18 milk and bread products; and, to award the bids to the lowest responsible bidders, Prairie Farms Dairy and Lewis Bakeries USA:

2017-18 Prevailing Wage Resolution: Motion by Booziotis, seconded by Tsung, to adopt the Annual Prevailing Wage Resolution as presented. Roll call: VanWinkle, Woodard, Booziotis, Flowers, Hudgins and Tsung voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

2017-18 School Fees: Motion by Hudgins, seconded by Flowers, to approve the following school fees for the 2017-18 school year:

Student Registration: $50.00

Driver Education Fee: $20.00

Student Lunch, Regular: $2.85

Student Lunch, Reduced: $0.40

Student Breakfast, Regular: $1.50

Student Breakfast, Reduced: $0.30

Student/Adult Milk: $0.25

Adult Lunch: $3.25

Adult Breakfast: $1.75

Roll call: Woodard, Booziotis, Flowers, Hudgins, Tsung and VanWinkle voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Resignation of Board of Education Member: Motion by Tsung, seconded by Hudgins, to accept the resignation of Brad Cole, a Board of Education member, as presented; authorize notification of the vacancy to the Regional Office of Education #30; and, to publicize the vacancy by posting on the district website. Roll call: Booziotis, Flowers, Hudgins, Tsung, VanWinkle and Woodard voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Executive Session: Motion by Booziotis, seconded by Flowers, to go into executive session for the purpose of considering information regarding the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees; to consider the appointment of a member to fill a vacancy on the Board of Education (5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1)(3)). Roll call: Flowers, Hudgins, Tsung, VanWinkle, Woodard and Booziotis voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

The executive session convened at 7:50 p.m. The executive session adjourned at 8:26 p.m. The public session of the meeting reconvened at 8:28 p.m. President Woodard stated no action was taken while in executive session.

Resignation: Motion by Tsung, seconded by Hudgins, to accept the resignation of Melanie Brink (Curriculum Director) effective at the end of the 2016-17 school year. Roll call: Flowers, Hudgins, Tsung, VanWinkle, Woodard and Booziotis voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Request to Change Retirement Date: Motion by Booziotis, seconded by Flowers, to approve the request of Sharon Lorinskas to change her retirement date from June, 2018 to June, 2019. Roll call: Hudgins, Tsung, VanWinkle, Woodard, Booziotis and Flowers voted yes. Nay, none. Motion carried.

Employment of 2017-18 Personnel: Motion by Flowers, seconded by Booziotis, to employ the following 2017-18 personnel as presented:

a. Secretary to the Counseling Department--Brittany DeVantier as the Secretary to the Counseling Department at the rate of $10.82 per hour for the 2017-18 school year. This is a full-time 12-month position.

b. Business Teacher--Christi McGee as a full-time Business Teacher. Ms. McGee’s education and experience will place her at Line 16, Column BA/BS on the Teacher Salary Schedule ($60,047.00).

c. Extra-Duty/Extended-Time Personnel--Personnel as presented:
