Logan golf coach joins junior college hall of fame

After leading his 16th John A. Logan golf team into the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national tournament a week earlier, coach Tom Ferris got ushered into the the NJCAA Coaches Hall of Fame, the school announced recently.

Ferris was recognized for his 20-year career as a golf coach at the college. In that time, two of the 16 teams he has coached to the tournament have won the title -- in 2009 and 2011.

The NJCAA Coaches Hall of Fame organization also acknowledged Ferris for winning more than 100 tournaments in his career and coaching 16 All-Americans. He has also won 15 regional titles.

Ferris has also earned the Region 24 Coach of the Year 12 times, was named the National Junior College Athletic Association's Coach of the Year in 2011, and helped launch the women's golf program at John A. Logan College in 1998.
