Unity Point Community Consolidated School District 140 Board met January 12.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The regular meeting of the Unity Point Board of Education was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by the president, Suzanne Sanders, with the following members present: Rick Asaturian, Morteza Daneshdoost, Eric Jung, D.W. Presley, Suzanne Sanders and Tom Upton. Others present were Lori James-Gross, Kerry Glenn, Bill Laser, Chris Midden, Amy Bergman, Ginger Staples, Dulce Garcia, Lynnette Beaupre, Brynn Freed, and Rachel Laub. Morteza Daneshdoost made the motion, seconded by D. W. Presley to approve the agenda. Motion carried 6-0 with all voting yea.

Rick Asaturian made the motion, seconded by Suzanne Sanders to approve the minutes of the December 8, 2016, regular meeting, copy attached. Motion carried 6-0 with all voting yea.

Suzanne Sanders recognized guests and visitors that were present.

Morteza Daneshdoost made the motion, seconded by Eric Jung to approve the bills as presented. Motion carried 6-0 with all voting yea.

Lori James-Gross indicated an intent to retire was received from Betty Fager effective the end of the 2016-17 school year; a thank you note was received from the family of Charlie Sisk expressing appreciation for the memorial received; and a letter of appreciation was received from ISBE recognizing Unity Point as an extraordinary Race to the Top District. D. W. Presley made the motion, seconded by Suzanne Sanders to accept the letter of intent to retire from Betty Fager, effective end of the 2016-17 school year. Motion carried 6-0 with all voting yea.

The Kindergarten team presented assessment data utilization techniques for kindergarten classrooms. Morteza Daneshdoost made the motion, seconded by Eric Jung to employ Liz Davidson and Emily Rosenow as Pre-Kindergarten Aides for the remainder of the 2016-17 school year. Motion carried 6-0 with all voting yea.

D. W. Presley made the motion, seconded by Suzanne Sanders to approve the Press policies updates following the second reading including proposed changes, except 7.60 regarding out-of-district tuition. Motion carried 6-0 with all voting yea.

Bill Laser and Lori James-Gross presented the 2nd Quarterly Financial Report and Cash and Investments update. Lori James-Gross presented the 2016-17 Seniority Lists for certified and non-certified staff for approval at the regular February meeting. Lori James-Gross presented current enrollment figures, per attached. Kerry Glenn presented an update on Unity Point student awards and recognition, per attached. There were no suspensions to report.

Discussion was held concerning which format to use for the Superintendent evaluation. Evaluations should be submitted to Suzanne Sanders by February 3, 2017 for consideration at the February 9, 2017 board meeting. 

Tom Upton made a motion, seconded by D.W. Presley to adjourn at 7:20 p.m. Motion carried 6-0 with all voting yea.
