Murphysboro ranked 398th in state in lottery ticket sales for March 2016

The City of Murphysboro had the 398th highest lottery ticket net sales statewide per capita for the month of March 2016 -- down 75 spots from its February ranking.

The per capita lottery ticket sales in Murphysboro was $21.77 per person.

Based on monthly sales records obtained by the Carbondale Reporter, Murphysboro generated $169,140 in net sales from its 11 lottery retailers in March 2016, compared to $212,868.50 in March 2015.

The City of Murphysboro is in Jackson County, and has a population of 7,768, according to 2010 census data. Neighboring municipalities are Harrison.

Average sales for municipalities in the region in March 2016 was $17,530.86.

Murphysboro's top lottery retailer is Farm Fresh located at 1904 Walnut St, Murphysboro, IL 62966.

Farm Fresh generated 20 percent of Murphysboro's March 2016 lottery ticket sales and 6 percent of Jackson County's sales that month, which was $596,049.50.

A close look at sales by city shows that the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita in Jackson County in 2015 were Murphysboro, De Soto, Elkville, Grand Tower and Ava.

Statewide, the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita were Forest View, Burnt Prairie, McCook, Mapleton and Merrionette Park.
