Carbondale ranked 670th in state in lottery ticket sales for March 2016

The City of Carbondale had the 670th highest lottery ticket net sales statewide per capita for the month of March 2016 -- up 34 spots from its February ranking.

The per capita lottery ticket sales in Carbondale was $12.89 per person.

Based on monthly sales records obtained by the Carbondale Reporter, Carbondale generated $340,214.50 in net sales from its 17 lottery retailers in March 2016, compared to $345,870 in March 2015.

The City of Carbondale is in Jackson County, and has a population of 26,399, according to 2010 census data. Neighboring municipalities are Carterville.

Average sales for municipalities in the region in March 2016 was $17,530.86.

Carbondale's top lottery retailer is Schnucks #722 located at 915 W Main St, Carbondale, IL 62901.

Schnucks #722 generated 17 percent of Carbondale's March 2016 lottery ticket sales and 10 percent of Jackson County's sales that month, which was $596,049.50.

A close look at sales by city shows that the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita in Jackson County in 2015 were Murphysboro, De Soto, Elkville, Grand Tower and Ava.

Statewide, the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita were Forest View, Burnt Prairie, McCook, Mapleton and Merrionette Park.

The top five cities in the state generated $5,496,719 in net sales -- 1 percent of the state's 2015 net sales amounting to $2,793,271,709.50.
