Celebrating seven decades of diversity, Southern Illinois University (SIU) at Carbondale will host its International Festival 2017 for a several-day span next week, Feb. 6-10, with multiple events honoring its international student population.
At 10 a.m. on Feb. 6, the university will sponsor the International Parade of Flags with SIU students from over 100 countries marching with native banners and attire. The parade will proceed from Woody Hall to the Student Center, where at 10:30 a.m. interim Chancellor Brad Colwell will sign an official proclamation as part of the welcoming activities.
Global cuisine will beckon participants’ palates 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Feb. 8 in the student center’s ballroom. At just 50 cents per ticket — available in advance at the student center as well as on site — diners can customize an assortment of dishes to their liking.
The Cultural Show, presented at 7 p.m. on Feb. 10, will offer song and dance, theatrical pieces and martial arts demonstrations. Located in the Student Center ballroom, the show is free to the public and family-friendly, according to SIU.
