The Herrin City Council met Dec. 12 to accept a roof repair bid.

REPORT
BUDGET OFFICE Carrie Cravens, Budget Director stated that she has checked the IMLRMA savings and from 2006-2012 we Saved $98,627.
CODES Codes Administrator Robert Craig stated that the Cherry Street demolition is almost complete. So far this Year demos are at 28.
PUBLIC WORKS Bill Sizemore, Chairman of the Public Works stated that trash pickup on the holidays will be on regular schedule. City Hall will be closed on December 23, 26, 30 and January 2.
Tom Somers, Public Works Director had nothing to report.
PUBLIC Marilyn Ruppel, Chairman of the Public Improvement Committee was absent from the meeting. IMPROVEMENT
PUBLIC SAFETY Quinn Laird, Police Chief was absent from the meeting. Mayor announced that shop with a cop will be December 14th at Herrin Walmart.
No one was in attendance from the Fire Department.
David Shoemake, Chairman of the Public Safety Committee stated that they are waiting on more information to have a committee meeting.
FINANCE Motion was made by Alderman York, seconded by Alderman Shoemake to authorize bills to be paid before the Council. Alderman McGuire, York, Miller, Kinley, Sizemore, Ahlgren and Shoemake voted "Yea. None voted "Nay".
INSURANCE Deon McGuire, Chairman of the Insurance Committee had nothing to report.
LIBRARY Marilyn Ruppel, Liaison for the Herrin City Library was absent from the meeting. LEASON
CIVIC CENTER Scott Kinley, Liaison for the Herrin Civic Center stated that the annual Brewer Foundation Scholarship LLIASON fundraiser is Saturday, December 17th. 7 p.m. concern with Blend, doors open at 6.

DISCUSSION & Motion made by Alderman McGuire, seconded by Alderman Miller to accept the bid from Tri-County POSSIBLE ACT- Roofing for Fire Department roof repairs. The bid was $28,000. Water Funds to repay ILDCEO Grant. Alderman Ahlgren, Shoemake, McGuire, York, Miller, Kinley and Sizemore voted "Yea". None voted "Nay".
Motion made by Alderman York, seconded by Alderman McGuire to approve agreement with LDCEO regarding previous grant obligations. Two of them are obligations to repair replace water mains on 16th & 17th and 12th & 14. Also we have to repay one grant in the amount of $104,000. Alderman Shoemake, McGuire, York, Miller, Kinley Sizemore and Ahlgren voted “Yea. None voted "Nay".
Motion made by Alderman Miller, seconded by Alderman Ahlgren to appoint Kathy Lively to the Greater Egypt Regional Planning Board for a term beginning January 1, 2017 and ending December 31, 2017. Alderman McGuire, York, Miller, Kinley, Sizemore, Ahlgren and Shoemake voted "Yea". None voted “Nay”.
Baldwin Piano is having an openhouse Saturday, December 17" from 1-6 p.m.
Mayor thanked Bobby Don Sullenger for another donation to the feline facility. Also received money from OLMC students for animal control. Wednesday, FBLA at the high school is hosting a dinner as a fundraiser For our animal control.
Next council meeting will be on Tuesday, December 27" due to City Hall closure on the 26.
The infamous blue Christmas tree was able to be lit this year due to the efforts of EJ Bonner and the property Owner Mr. Jack. It was lighted at 5:30 this evening.
Alderman McGuire stated that the first phase of the feline facility is complete. Electrical work will be this Week followed by water and sewer.
Alderman Ahlgren stated that there is a crosswalk by junior high that needs repainted. The 2" annual City Hall Christmas Open House was quite a success and the decorations at City Hall are beautiful.
Alderman Miller stated that the first phase of project at Pine Lakes is about 4 done.
Alderman Kinley wished everyone a Merry Christmas.
Randy Crompton stated that Mr. Jack actually climbed to the top of his tree and placed the star.
Resident addressed the council concerned with extending one way streets surrounding Northside School. Police Dept. will check into.
