From now through Feb. 10, area residents can clean out their closets, sparing landfills an extra burden while contributing to someone’s wardrobe by donating unwanted clothing to Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Career Closet.
SIU launched the collection drive last week for its on-campus recycled apparel program. Career Closet is located in Grinnell Hall’s lower level, in the Multicultural Resource Center. The center is sponsoring the drive along with the school’s Sustainability Council and seeks all kinds of professional gear, from separates to complete outfits.
Organizers request that clothing be clean and in good condition. SIU students in need of apparel will use the articles for interviews and related professional events.
The Career Closet accepts and distributes clothing during the entire academic year. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Fridays.
Participants can drop off clothing donations at the Multicultural Resource Center in Grinnell Hall; the area office in Lentz Hall; member services on the Student Recreation Center’s second floor; or at the Innovation and Sustainability Hub on the recreation center’s main floor.
For more specific location details and exact donation times, call 618-453-3740 or 618-453-7993.
