The community of Olmsted, located along the Ohio River, marked the opening of a new RV campground this past weekend. The site, which was previously a clay mine, has been restored and repurposed for recreational use.

A collaborative effort involving PRN, Breaking the Cycle, and several local organizations secured grant funding to plant 20 native tree species at the campground. More than 50 volunteers participated in planting trees and celebrating the event.

Acknowledgments were extended to various contributors: "Thank you and congratulations to all who made this possible: Village of Olmsted, Senator Dale Fowler, State Representative Paul Jacobs, Southern Five Regional Planning District and Development Commission, Faith in Place, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, National Wildlife Federation, University of Illinois Extension – AJMPU Unit (4-H members), and Olmstead Historical Society."

State Representative Paul Jacobs is a Republican who began representing Illinois’ 118th House District in 2023 after succeeding Patrick Windhorst.
