For the second consecutive week, a swimmer from Southern Illinois University has been recognized as the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Women's Swimmer of the Week. The MVC announced on Wednesday that Olivia Herron received this week's honor, following last week's recognition of her teammate Liseska Gallegos Gutierrez.

Head coach Geoff Hanson commented on Herron's achievement: "Olivia is picking up where she left off from her junior year, All-American and MVC championship season. She put in great work during the summertime and has established herself as one of the best swimmers in the NCAA. This is just the beginning of a huge senior campaign for her."

Herron's recent performances included first-place finishes in multiple events over two days. On Friday against UIC, she won the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke, and 100-yard butterfly. The following day at a tri-meet with Northwestern and Miami (OH), she again took first place in both breaststroke distances and added a win in the 200-yard individual medley. She also contributed to a podium finish in the 200-yard medley relay.

Nationally, Herron currently ranks among the top 16 swimmers in three events: 100- and 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard individual medley. This marks her seventh career selection as MVC Women's Swimmer of the Week.

The Salukis' next competition will be held October 24 and 25 in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, where they will face Illinois and Illinois State.
