Southern Illinois University men's golfer Anthony De Schutter won his third individual title of the semester at the Purdue Fall Invitational, held October 13–14 in West Lafayette, Indiana. De Schutter finished with a score of six-under-par (210), recording rounds of 73, 67, and 70. He edged out Purdue's Will Harvey by one stroke to secure the championship.
This win is De Schutter's third of the fall season. He is now tied with Matthis Besard as the only Saluki to have three tournament victories in a single season. His performance has helped establish him as a leading player in the Missouri Valley Conference.
The Southern Illinois team finished seventh among 15 teams with a combined score of 877 (292–285–300). In addition to De Schutter's result, Michael Mikus and Ben Keil both tied for 37th place at seven-over-par. Blake Saffell tied for 49th at nine-over-par, while Oliver Ulrich finished tied for 66th at sixteen-over-par.
Purdue won the team competition with a total score of twenty-five-under-par. Butler placed second at six-under-par, followed by Oakland (+3), Illinois State (+6), Nebraska (+8), and Northern Illinois (+11). Southern Illinois was two strokes behind Northern Illinois.
De Schutter's previous wins this season include titles at the Badger Invitational and Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational. The sophomore has contributed to one of Southern Illinois' strongest starts in recent years.
The Salukis will finish their fall schedule later this month at the Kaanapali Classic in Lahaina, Hawaii, hosted by the University of Hawaii from October 27–29.
