Senior kicker and punter Paul Geelen has been recognized as the Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) Special Teams Player of the Week following Southern Illinois' 37-10 victory over UT Martin on Saturday.

Geelen, a native of Utrecht, Netherlands, was perfect on all four point-after-touchdown attempts and made his only field goal from 28 yards out just before halftime. He also recorded six kickoffs, each resulting in a touchback.

In addition to his kicking duties, Geelen punted twice with an average of 48.5 yards per punt and a long of 53 yards. Late in the fourth quarter, he executed a successful fake punt, rushing for 29 yards to secure a first down.

This marks the first time Geelen has received this honor during his career at Southern Illinois.

The MVFC also announced other weekly award winners: Offensive Player of the Week is running back L.J. Phillips Jr. from South Dakota; Defensive Player of the Week is linebacker Tye Niekamp from Illinois State; and Newcomer of the Week is wide receiver Ayden Price from UNI.
