Murphysboro High School reported on its official X account the opening of the boys soccer season with a win over Salem, highlighting individual player achievements and community attendance.

On August 26, 2025, Murphysboro High School posted: "Boys Soccer opens the season with a home opener win over Salem! https://t.co/l4HrtKz6su". Later that evening, another post detailed the match's outcome and key contributors: "A good size crowd on hand for tonight's season-opening victory over Salem, 5-3. Goals scored by: Van Woosley, William Stuemke, and (3) by David Boudet. Devils back in Action Fri/Sat at Cdale Tournament! https://t.co/8kgK8xk861".

Murphysboro High School is part of Murphysboro Community Unit School District 186 in Jackson County. The district includes several schools such as Carruthers Elementary School and Murphysboro Middle School. According to the Illinois State Board of Education, the district employs 147 teachers with an average salary of $53,770; about three-quarters are women and one-quarter are men. There have been no teachers in the district with more than ten absences in a school year. Demographically, the student body is approximately 69 percent White, nearly 16 percent Black, just over seven percent Hispanic, and less than one percent Asian.
