State Representative Paul Jacobs has commented on the sentencing of former House Speaker Michael J. Madigan. Madigan received a 7.5-year prison sentence, three years of probation, and a $2.5 million fine.

Jacobs, who serves on the House Ethics and Elections Committee, expressed that this outcome was overdue. He stated, "Mike Madigan’s 7.5-year prison sentence, 3 years of probation, and $2.5 million fine is a long-time coming." Jacobs emphasized the need for stronger ethics laws to prevent political corruption without relying solely on federal intervention.

He called upon his Democratic colleagues to take decisive action in passing meaningful ethics reform. "I urge my Democratic colleagues to get serious about passing real ethics reform so the people of Illinois can once again have faith and trust in their government," he said.
