State Representative Paul Jacobs took part in the annual memorial ceremony honoring peace officers who lost their lives in the line of duty over the past year. The event was hosted at the Illinois State Library, located across from the Capitol Building, on Thursday.
The day's activities began with a squad car procession assembling at the Fairgrounds at 6:30 a.m., followed by an interfaith church service at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at 9:30 a.m. The main memorial ceremony took place at the State Capitol at 11 a.m.
The 2025 Illinois Peace Officer Memorial paid tribute to current honorees, including Deputy Christina Musil from the Dekalb County Sheriff, Sergeant Andrew J. Faught from the Illinois Department of Corrections, and Officer Luis Miguel Huesca from the Chicago Police Department. Also honored were Deputy Sheriff Rafael D. Wordlaw from the Cook County Sheriff's Department of Corrections, Officer James B. Crowley from the Chicago Police Department, Trooper Corey Steven Thompsen from the Illinois State Police, Officer Enrique Martinez from the Chicago Police Department, Detective Allan Marcus Reddins from the Oak Park Police Department, and Trooper Clay Matthew Carns from the Illinois State Police.
In addition to these officers, the ceremony recognized K-9 units who were also lost in the past year, including Nyx from the Rockford Police Department, Dax from the Lake County Sheriff's Office, and Odin from the Alton Police Department.
