Southern Illinois University's track and field team is set to compete in the Gibson Invitational, marking its fourth outdoor meet of the season. The event is scheduled to begin on April 17 at 10 a.m. in Terra Haute. This meet will be the first Valley-hosted competition for the Salukis this year.

The competition at the Gibson Invitational includes a range of teams from the Midwest, such as Valley host Indiana State and other programs like Evansville, Murray State, Northern Iowa, UIC, as well as Butler, Dayton, Depaul, Eastern Illinois, SIUE, Marquette, Xaiver, and Central Michigan.

The invitational spans three days. The first day, Thursday, will start with the women's pentathlon and men's decathlon at 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., respectively. On Friday, the multi-events continue at 9:30 a.m., followed by field events at noon, and running events at 6 p.m. The final day, Saturday, will feature field events beginning at 11:30 a.m., with track events starting at noon. The event is expected to conclude at 5:30 p.m. with the 4x400M relay.

Previously, the Saluki team participated in the Cougar Classic, where Christian Coleman, Darrione Williams, Darius Fuller, Andre Jackson II, and the men's 4x100m relay team comprising Caleb Massiah, Xavier Preston, Andre Jackson II, and Christian Donatelli achieved significant victories. The team is hopeful to maintain this momentum into the upcoming competition at Indiana State.
